My 10 Things!

One reason I encourage people to blog is that the act of doing it stretches your available vocabulary and hones a new voice. – Seth Godin

Hello hello!

Last week and this morning I found out I was nominated for this award by the wonderful Alice and Carrie. I normally do not participate in them but I really do enjoy reading nominations. I love reading interesting little tidbits about my blogging friends, and I love getting introduced to some of my blogging friends’ blogging friends. So on this freezing cold Canadian morning I have decided to participate! Since I was nominated by 2 people I combined their questions together! So here are my answers to questions you may not have known about me!

What is your standard Starbucks order?

I definitely have a handful of drinks which I recycle through depending on the time of year. However, the one drink I can always go for is a Venti Chai Latte, easy water, no foam, lactose free. Yeah, I have a complicated order, but I hate foam, and I am lactose intolerant, and I am not sure why I started getting it with easy water but I stick with it. My summer drink is definitely a Venti Passion Tea Lemonade half raspberry half classic. Not as complicated, but seriously try it with the raspberry – YOU. WILL. NEVER. GO. BACK.

If you could eat any meal from any restaurant regardless of price or proximity in the world to you what would it be?

This is such an easy question. I would hop in my car, drive to Niagara Falls, cross the “Rainbow Bridge” drive about another 25-30 minutes to Amherst and eat at Olive Garden. I would have all you can eat soup, salad, and breadsticks. I would then cross the street, go to the local grocery store, and purchase a few cases of Vanilla Coke and then head home. I know.. Canada does NOT have Vanilla coke, except for some convenience store near my house who illegally sells them. It is also awful that Niagara Falls in 3 hours away and the closest Olive Garden is 30 minutes farther. I do have the recipe for the Salad, but I mean, it’s not the same as physically going.

When Jamie and I first started dating – almost FOUR years ago I somehow convinced him to take me there one Sunday. The US boarder guy, not only drew us a map, but he also made complete fun of me for being Italian and driving almost 4 hours just for Italian food and Vanilla Coke. He doesn’t get it. VANILLA COKE. ALL YOU CAN EAT SOUP, SALAD, AND BREADSTICKS. Coming back into Canada was more of a challenge. The Canadian CBSA employee, obviously had neither of those things because he was confused why we would do that.. Again – VANILLA COKE. ALL YOU CAN EAT SOUP, SALAD, AND BREADSTICKS. Funny story, we were stuck in the line trying to get back into Canada and I turned to Jamie and said “I have the receipts if they ask” he laughs at me seeing how we literally were there for 3 hours and bought 2 cases of Vanilla Coke and Lunch. Sure enough the CBSA guy demanded to see them. Never doubt me Jamie. Never doubt me…. Oh, we also experienced a “toll booth”.

What is your motto?

Funny enough I won every religion, catholic, and pastors award in school. So obviously my two favourite quotes or ‘mottos’ come from the bible. “She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future” and “hope anchors the soul”

What is something you always have to do every night before you can go to bed?

Play all 5 of my Candy Crush lives, wash my face, put foot cream on.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

MORNING. I Struggle to stay up past 10 PM (without the assist of alcohol). My favourite time of day is early morning, when I am awake and everyone is sleeping. It is so peaceful and quiet.

Favourite thing about where you live right now?

Working heat. It is absolutely freezing, and we are in the middle of a big snow storm. Working heat is definitely my favourite.

If you could live in any era other than the present what would it be and why?

I am obsessed with really old England. I would LOVE to go back in time to King Henry VIII era. Although I would want to be Royal because if you weren’t you were just incredibly poor. But if I was Royal I would probably be beheaded. Maybe I need to rethink this. Have you seen ‘Kate and Leopold’ (it is my 2nd favourite movie)? Leopold’s era is probably better. The big dresses, hair, balls. I love it all. I also LOVE Phillipa Gregory books which are all historical fiction. LOVE.

What are you thankful for right this minute?

Working heat, and my big furry blanket.

Where do you picture your life 5 years from now?

Gosh, 5 years from now I will ALMOST be… 27. Yikes. Guess I see myself living in my perfect Pinterest Home after my perfect Pinterest wedding, sipping on my Starbucks.

What is your favourite website?

These Ladies (and Bitter Ben) are the reason I love blogging. My little blogging family. I have hyperlinked one of my favourite posts from each of them.

Carrie. I think Carrie is a long lost twin who got all the athletic and sporty abilities. She is absolutely hilarious, and has the most adorable little dog named Gatsby. It is also because of her that Jamie and I were able to choose a ‘mutual favourite football team’ (he was mad that I like Tom Brady The Patriots. It’s not my fault his Jets don’t do well..) It was her love for Green Bay that was the decision.

Taryn. Taryn love Recipes and Books. I mean, what more do you need in life? Her last name is Gotham and makes references from time to time about Batman. It took me a few months to realize that Batman and Gotham city go together.

Reema (Mrs. B). When I think of the ‘perfect little British life’ I think of Reema. Enough said. Love her, and her puppy, and her pictures, and her shoes… Her blog is currently getting some plastic surgery.

Andrea. Andrea was one of the first blogs I followed. She is absolutely hilarious and she too has such a cute dog. She used to live in Alaska, which according to Sarah Palin you can see Russia from your house; so that is pretty cool!!!

BitterBen. Ben is bitter. He is also sarcastic. He can always find the bitter side to everything – I mean everything. He said he was going to join us for Thanksgiving and Christmas.. His plate is still bitterly waiting for him.

Charlene. My only little Irish friend. Her pictures transport me to this beautiful world a few time zones ahead of me.

Lydia. She says she is obsessed with Diet Coke and baking cupcakes. When can I meet this girl? I love Vanilla coke and eating cupcakes…

Nichole. She blogs conversations she has with her two adorable daughters. They are hilarious absolutely adorable. Sometimes the conversations remind me of me and my sister when we were younger.

My mother. My mother has questions regarding her blog, the computer, hyperlinking, and copy and pasting. I guess her blog is like my second blog, so she obviously has to be on this list if nothing more than narcissistic reason.

Alice. “AliceInWonder” now come on, that is pretty awesome. She is a foodie who posts amazing pictures of the meals she has. Yummy! She also made an amazing cupcake once that looked like a rainbow on clouds. Again, I love cupcakes. Wait a minute… Lydia, meet Alice.

Iced Tea Obsession

“You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea, then a left will take you to the interstate, but a right will bring you right back here to me” – Billy Currington: Good Directions

I have previously mentioned how much I hate tea. I so desperately want to like it, but once it is in my mouth I cannot swallow and end up gagging. By gagging I mean choking. What always struck me as odd was the fact I love iced tea, yet cannot stand hot tea. A few weeks ago, I discovered David’s Tea sells tea (obviously) but for the intent of being cold. I was thrilled and had to try it.

If you follow me on instagram it will would easy to see how fast I got addicted to it.

PicMonkey Collage

I now have a quarter of a cupboard full of different teas I am pretty excited by it. Although it is not hot tea, nor herbal or spice tasting (it has to be fruity) I somewhat consider myself a tea-ish drinker! Maybeeeee, just don’t invite me over for tea!

My all time favourite combo would have to be Pink Passionfruit and Pink Lemonade. It almost tastes like the delicious “passion tea lemonade” from starbucks!

Do you like tea?
What has been your drink of summer?!

Practicing Excited Faces Because Of Pizza

“Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.”  – Mark Twain

One of the downfalls of doing nothing but watching Grey’s for the past two weeks, is that they are almost always eating pizza. Due to this, I have been craving nothing but pizza. Thankfully, Pizza is one of Jamie’s favourite foods, so he was totally down with pizza for date night.

As excited as I was all week waiting, nothing prepared me for how excited I was all through Friday while waiting. This all caused me to realize I do not have a “super duper excited face”. I am not sure which face looks like it should be my new excited face.

excited-faceWhat number do you think is the best excited face?? I am leaning towards number 4, 5, and 8. I think they are the most “excited”.. I don’t know, what would you suggest?

Oh, I also got my pizza.

What’s On My iPhone?

“An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator… these are NOT three separate devices! And we are calling it iPhone! Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone. And here it is.” -Steve Jobs

Thinking back to a few months ago when I shared “What’s In My Purse” I said it seems to be a big secret on what is kept in there. “You often wonder what is kept in there, but you would not dare to go through someone else’s.” I feel like it is pretty similar with phones. Our cellphone hold our lives, dates, texts, games, banking and in some cases books.

I am always interested to see what apps some people have on their phones, and I am going to try to remove the secret! SO, lets do this!

I have an iPhone 5, 16 GB in black (I do not keep music on it, so I find I have way more than enough space). It is on the Rogers Network – which is obviously a Canadian Carrier. My phone case is a deep purple, but I am hoping to get a new one shortly.

IMG_0006I find lock screens pretty boring, but hey, I am sure everyone would want to see the photo background. That photo was taken on Jamie’s 25th birthday (exactly 1 year on April 1st! – Please refrain from “April Fools” jokes”)

Now to the main attraction.

IMG_0007On this screen I only keep things which I find important and I use all the time, kept in the order of what is used most frequently. For those of you who may be wondering “KIK” is an app very similar to BBM for BlackBerry, its essentially instant messaging but can work on iPhone to Android and it allows you to see when they are typing or read you message….. Instagram username: juliaisslamow

I also created my own background on Adobe Illustrator. I love it!!!!

IMG_0008It gets busy on page 2. It holds everything who I use, but not all the time. I will not go into the details of every app but if you are wondering definitely leave a comment!

The only app I will touch on in “songpop”.. Im addicted. Add me. “missjuliaa”

You may have noticed I have a “Useless” folder. That is for all those apps which come standard with the iPhone which I never use.

IMG_0009I would have LOVED for the “newsstand” to go in there but it would allow for that..

Lastly, for anyone incredibly nosey like myself curious…. Here are my sound settings.

What kind of phone do you have?
Do you have any cool apps you wold suggest?
What is your favourite app?

So This Is What Has Become of My Life.

“So open up your morning light, and say a little prayer for I. You know that if we are to stay alive, then see the love in every eye.” – Paula Cole “I don’t want to wait”

This one single photo can summarize up what my life has come to in the past week.

IMG_0001Yes…. That would be Dawson Leery.

I have watched Dawson’s Creek on and off, when it was on TV Saturday mornings. Always loved it, but was never committed to actually watching it from start to finish… Until last week.

Last week I downloaded the first few seasons, and well, in 1 week I am on episode 11 of season 3… Pathetic much? Don’t worry though, I am still going to class. So it amazes me how I have managed to come this far.

I have to keep busy while I am sitting here for hours watching, so I have started knitting again.. By again, I mean too much. My knitting injury strained muscle began acting up again, and on Monday my fingers we cramped… Why do I do this to myself?

There really isn’t that much more to say in regards to my absence – well, other than I think I have a peculiar infatuation with Pacey Witter… I think I am supposed to be in love with Dawson. NO way, Pacey all the way.

I have missed everyone! What have you been doing?

Public Service Announcement from Jasper

” I can’t stay away from Chinese food. I really love that stuff.” – Shaun White

Hi! Hi! Hi! Jasper here!! I sure am excited!!!!

Jules wanted me to fill in for her as she has been a bad human the past couple days and slacked off on blogging – much like treat giving; she has started to make me work for them!! Its slave labor, I tell you!! She says shes been very busy with school and and she can’t wait to be back soon!!!!!

Anyways back to me!!!! I think I would like to talk to you nice human friends on what a sad night I had. I am a pretty hyper puppy 99.42% of the time, but tonight I was just sad. Jules and Jamie brought dinner home. They are never here for dinner. It was chinese food. They ate on the floor, kind of like I do but at a small table thing. I was SUPER excited, I thought they would even share with me! I share my balls. I share my kisses. I share my belly.  I share the couch. I like to share. They didnt want to.

I tried to be cute.

IMG_0057When that didn’t get me anything. I went straight to sad. Who can’t resist a sad lil’ puppy?

IMG_0059Those mean humans. Thats who. They didn’t give me one freakin’ bite! Not one. Not even a lick from their fingers. Not even a fake “oops, I dropped a chicken ball”. Nothing. Zip. Zilch.

I left them alone for 5 minutes, hoping in my absence they would see how hurt I was. I came back and they didn’t even notice I was gone!!!!  I found a spot on the couch and pouted, hoping to maybe pull on the heart strings of them… or maybe, wait for Karma to play out… and Oh boy did it ever.

You see, Jules was eating some rice with her stick things. She hiccuped and the rice went flying all over her. I had a hard time capturing a good picture as she wasn’t too happy.

PicMonkey CollageShe needed help cleaning it up. She asked Jamie to get her some napkins. He was busy eating and told her he would when he was finished his last bite……. She wasnt too happy. I thought I would help a brotha out, and help him finish. All I got was “no Jasper”… NO JASPER???? wtf man? Bros before hoes, dicks before chicks? Has he never head of this? What is with humans these days?

IMG_0060I had enough. These humans were nothing but greedy tonight. I left them after I took that final photo. My heart was breaking. I had enough. I went and decided to take some of the cat food when they weren’t looking instead.. I guess I will leave them alone – until breakfast.

Goodnight human friends. It was nice talking to you. I’m off to go pout in my misery.

“So You Think You Don’t Have An Accent?”

“The accent of one’s birthplace remains in the mind and in the heart as in one’s speech.” – Francois de La Rochefoucauld

I found this awesome post idea from Miss Jorie over at “The Midwest Mavin“. It consisted of numerous words where you have to describe how you say them, which will prove, to some people, that you have an accent.

I remember when I was in Mexico and I would speak. People would immediately ask me which part of Canada I was from. I had to laugh as I clearly do not think I have an accent. Most of them told me that my “politeness” gave it away. “Only” Canadians apologize when we hear something incorrectly. I guess that is the stereotype that goes along with living in a generally polite nation.

I had to laugh while reading what Jorie was saying. She is from Chicago, which I believe their accents are pretty neat. I find people from Chicago are very nasal-y. I had a teacher who was from Chicago and we would constantly try to speak like him. There are a few people who can no longer say “technology” without it sounding like “tech-NAL-ogy.

Anyways, let’s begin!

1. How do you pronounce Mary, marry, and merry?

This actually confused me. I say them all the same. I don’t understand how they would be said differently. I say mare-ee. The only other way I could figure out how it would be different is “merry” sounding like murray. But that seems weird to me.

2. Those things you sleep in: PaJAMas or pajaaahmas?

Definitely PaJAMas. The other version seems very “proper”, “uppity” and “snobbish”..

3. How do you pronounce cot and caught?

Much like number 1, I am unsure how these would be pronounced differently. I say them the same, just like it looks. cot.

4. What do women to use to tie back their hair: rubber band, hair tie, elastic, hair thing, or other?

This is where I use different ones. Hair tie or hair elastic. Mostly “hair elastic” though… I think. Maybe “hair tie” more… Maybe 50/50…

5. The shoes you wear when you exercise: sneakers, tennis shoes, or gym shoes?

None of the above! Running shoes..

6. Soda, pop, or Coke?

Pop. Definitely Pop. Coke confused me again… Coke to me (besides cocaine) is a cola beverage. Would Sprite be considered Coke as it is a CocaCola Product? I don’t get this.

7. Lightning bug or firefly?

Firefly. I have never heard the term “Lightning Bug” until today.

8. How do you pronounce syrup?

You should really go check Jorie out! She even has the statistics on the commonly used words!
How do you pronounce the above words?
