Is It Fall Yet?

“And I go back to watchin summer fade to fall, Growin up too fast and I do recall, Wishin time would stop right in its tracks” – Kenny Chesney “I Go Back”

I feel like a bad person; bad Canadian for that matter. One thing you don’t do is wish the summer away – YOU. JUST. DON’T.

It seems like since August 1, I have been craving the fall. I have been trying to suppress this craving, afraid for it to surface. I have no idea what it is, after all it is still pretty hot here. I think it must be from all the ‘back to school’ ads. Back to school = fall, even if September is still considered summer.

I can’t seem to wait for the dark nail polish, the hot lattes, the fuzzy socks, the cozy blankets, the cool mornings, the cinnamon, the pumpkins, the hot soups, Jamie intently watching football, soft pretzels, the yoga pants, the scarfs, the chunky sweaters. I. CAN’T. WAIT.

But I am trying to. I am trying to suck in as much summer as possible. I have been trying to sit outside on the deck for a little bit each day with my Kindle. I have been trying to embrace the heat, even if it is just for a little bit longer.

After all, it won’t be long before I am longing to be doing just that. Once fall comes, it is like we have 1 month of perfect weather and then it is just a burden.

I love fall!

“I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it.” ― Lee Maynard

I love fall. I just love fall. I usually start celebrating the day after labor day so I can get an extra 2-3 weeks in there of fall. On my official “start date” I was telling Jamie about all the things which I love about fall; he basically looked at me like deer in headlights as I went into the girl in the mirror.. You know, “If you look in the mirror and say ‘Pumpkin Spice Latte’ a girl will appear in yoga pants and tell you all the things she loves about fall”.. I was that girl. I am that girl.

So just to be that girl again, these are just a few of the reasons I am in love with fall.

fallfavs

//1. Sweaters, sweater weather, being cozy. My favourite weather is the one where it is too chilly to just have a t-shirt on, but not cold enough for a jacket. Sweather Weather. Put on a sweater and you are good to go. I love sweaters. I love Sweater Weather.

//2. Blankets. I don’t think there is anything better than curling up under a blanket on a cold fall night, or morning, and being all bundled underneath it.

//3.  Changes colours. So pretty. The end. I don’t understand how people can live in places where there are no seasons and cannot see and feel the change in the air…… but then winter comes and I think I start to get it – especially being in Canada where we all live in igloos.

//4. Scarves! I love wearing scarves. I have more than I would like to admit. I think they totally finish off an outfit. A scarf and a sweater; what better weather would you like?

//5. Fuzzy socks and leg warmers. There is nothing better than being cozy.

//6. Kindle. I adore my Kindle, and although I use it all year, there is just something special of being bundled up with a book on a cold fall morning o r night.

//7. Starbucks seasonal drinks. Nothing goes better with a cozy blanket, socks, scarves, sweater, and a good book, like a Starbucks. I mentioned I don’t like the Pumpkin Spice Latte (Love the frap though), but I do love the Salted Caramel Mocha (lactose free!), and although not seasonal the Caramel Apple Spice (Half sweet, no whip)… I think I just realized I like Caramel. I guess I need to stop telling people “I hate caramel”.

//8. Candles. Bath and Body Works. Like I said in number 7, “nothing goes better with….” just add “candles” to that list.

I just love fall……
– Just not as much as Christmas.
….And don’t get me started on  the fact I hate Halloween.
Seriously, it’s the one day which stands between ME and decorating for Christmas.
I am not American, and No I will not wait for the American Thanksgiving to be over
before I start decorating. Seriously what kind of BS logic is that?
I do not understand Canadians with that logic.
Jamie’s stepdad is  American,  so maybe I should should follow that ‘logic’.. But I won’t.
Okay, that rant escalated quickly.

Wow, I sure have been MIA again. I guess everyone can guess what that means – new series. I think I need to start taking breaks from continuous series. This time I am watching a really old favourite – 7th Heaven. It has been just over a week and I am half way through season 5 – pathetic right? Did anyone else love this show? I feel like everyone used to talk about this show, then again, I went to catholic school.

Although I have been watching this show like crazy, there have been a few other things which I have done.

Most exciting we made Pumpkin walnut and which chocolate chip muffins. Oh goodness, they are definitely the best muffins which I have had. So delicious!!!

Speaking of food, my mom and I went out to a restaurant for dessert one night. Oddly enough, I had a rocky road cheesecake. It was scrumptious but I absolutely hate marshmallows. My mom got a triple chocolate cake which was also scrumptious. There were two men who were playing live music – kind of folk sounding. I felt kind of bad for them, the only people who were there aside from us was a table of 4 – all of which knew the men playing. Bad turnout apparently…  All their songs reminded me of all the songs from Juno. If I was a flower growing wild and free, all I would want is for you to be my sweet honeybee.

With all this busyness which has been going on, I completely forgot to mention that it is officially looking like fall! All the leaves are beginning to change colours and the temperature is finally at the perfect “fall” temp.

Jamie just came back from the gym with some breakfast for me! Happy Saturday!!!!

Pumpkin Spice

It was a beautiful day yesterday and I really wanted to go out instead of sitting at home wasting the day. I decided the best idea was to go to Starbucks and get my first Pumpkin Spice Frap of this season (I was so excited I went to take a picture of myself and somehow got a picture of the sky and part of my house). I absolutely hate the latte version of the drink – I know, go ahead and judge me.

With my Frap (lactose free, no whip), in hand I headed to numerous stores on hunt for a nail polish.

I am on the hunt for a deep plum colour. Something like Zoya – Sloane, Essie – Damsel In A Dress, or Nars – Koh Lanta. Unfortunately I was unable to find anything similar (or exact) to what I was looking for.

Although I did not find what I was looking for, I DID find these two odd items. I was in shock and wondered who on earth would ever purchase these things. They have to be two of the strangest things I have ever found.

One Cold Day

“Nothing burns like the cold.”  – George R.R. Martin

IMG_0155

I feel like I need to retract my previous statement of loving the fall. I am somewhat hating it right now. I mentioned we had a mini heat wave, which lasted all week – until today. Today is really cold, gloomy, and windy. What is this crap? Where is the sun, light breeze and relatively mild temperature?

IMG_0157

I am instead suck sipping my coffee in practically darkness like on a cold winter morning. I mean, WHO enjoys that? Not me, that is for sure.  So while being cold in the dark, I decided I needed to bake some cookies. I have no idea what has been up with me lately but I cannot stop baking. At first I thought I was like Izzy from Grey’s, but I’m not emotion (or crazy enough to go cut someone’s LVAD [or is it LVAT?] wire).

The chocolate chip cookies smelled amazing while baking – what isn’t there to love about freshly baked cookies? I do have a confession to make, my favourite cookies and Pillsbury chocolate chunk – DELICIOUS. But since I hardly ever buy them, I had to dig out a recipe.

*** SIDE NOTE *** I did find a recipe for dupes to the Pillsbury, but there is something about dumping lard into a batter which disgusts me. I will just buy a tube instead. What I don’t see won’t hurt me (quickly. I am sure it takes time to block an artery).

Anyways, back to the cookies. They were good, even better when they were fresh out of the oven.

IMG_0158

Well, I think I will spend the rest of my day snacking on cookies and shivering. I’m a whimp, it’s really not THAT cold. It’s 11C (51 F), this is outdoor BBQ hosting weather in Canada.

OHHHHH. I also baked homemade caramelized apple and cinnamon bagels yesterday. I am telling you, this need to bake is getting out of hand. WHO makes their own bagels? Especially when Dempsters are on sale…

I hope you are having a “bright (bright), bright (bright) sun-shining day!”

Pumpkin Craze

“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple…”  –  J.K. Rowling

It has been almost a week since I announced I have been obsessed with fall and couldn’t wait for the fall baking. In less then a week my mom and I have successfully completely two pumpkin recipes! We are still on track to do a recipe every Sunday, although we baked today instead of this Sunday as we have a family birthday party this week – which is totally a good thing as we get more pumpkin right away.

We made Starbucks Inspired Pumpkin Scones, which were beyond delicious. In my opinion they were better than the ones at Starbucks and almost TOO easy to make.

IMG_0152

Today we made some pumpkin brownies which were equally as easy and delicious!

IMG_0153

My mom has posted the scone recipe, and will also publish the brownie recipe in the near future. Two recipes down, 6-8 more to go!!

On a side note, the weather has totally put a damper in my “Falling Into Autumn” mood. We had a bit of a heat wave yesterday and today. With the humidity we had 43 C (109F) highs. I had to stop wearing scarves and socks. Although, I heard Friday is supposed to be 12C (53.6 F). Thankfully. — I think I will be hating myself for saying that in a few months when its -43C with the windchill factor.
